His Holiness Sakya Trizin arrived in Kathmandu to an awe inspiring traditional welcome. Thousands upon thousands of people lined the streets from the airport to Boudhanath Stupa, where a huge crowd gathered to receive our great master.

A long procession of hundreds of Sakya monks accompanied by marching bands and many groups, led His Holiness into the stupa area, playing long and short horns, gyaling, cymbals, drums and conches, offering incense and flowers and all wearing full ornamental dress including the yellow “chös gös” and their monastery's traditional hat.

The entire entourage stopped as His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche warmly welcomed His Holiness Sakya Trizin with an exchange of traditional silk scarves. A very touching welcoming greeting which was the highlight of the procession.

The procession then led His Holiness to Tharig Monastery, where He would stay for the most Auspicious enthronement of His Eminence Tharig Tulku Rinpoche.

Following this very special event, His Holiness stayed in Kathmandu giving a long program of teachings and empowerments, including giving the Vajrakilaya Torma initiation which had been requested by His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. This was certainly one of the most special events of my life – as I was able to receive that empowerment with His Eminence.
